Owning a commercial property that has hundreds of people coming in and out every day is a large responsibility. If you think that you need to be more selective with who can come in and out of the building, you want to talk with a security team about the doors you have, and the locks needed.
Doors with robust commercial-grade deadbolts are strong enough to avoid getting kicked in or broken into, and key card access systems make it even more difficult. Here are some benefits of both of these systems.
Card Access Interior and Exterior Doors
Install a system that only allows access inside the building with the swipe of a card. This allows you to:
- Increase security
- Limit who can come in or out
- Change codes and redistribute cards when needed
- Require identification cards for access
- Have a digital report of who accessed the doors
All your employees can be required to have their ID badge somewhere on their body, and they must use this badge to get inside the building, and possibly to important rooms inside the commercial property as well.
Talk with the security installation team about what card systems are the easiest to use, what the cost is, and how to get someone on staff trained to program new cards when you let someone go or have to change the access bar codes.
Deadbolt Systems
Passcode-protected deadbolt systems should be installed on all the main doors as well. You can make it so after business hours someone will need to do more than just swipe a badge to get in, they would also need to type in the correct passcode.
There are interior rooms that may need highly secure passcode doors as well. This would include rooms with:
- Hazardous chemicals
- Valuable supplies or materials
- Some type of vault or safe
- Weapons
Even if you want to have a safe room that no one can get into if there is an emergency, this is the type of lock you would want on the doors.
You will want to talk with the security team to see what doors they think are the most vulnerable, where you need the most enhanced security, and what door-locking systems will be the best for your workplace. You want to limit who can come in and out and have reports from the key card access who was going through the doors on your property and at what times during the day.
