Three Types Of Damage To Your Wall Safe And How The Locksmith Will Fix It

Wall safes are a good option when you want to keep guns and valuables locked up. However, it just takes one break-in and a thief with the right knowledge to make a mess of your safe. Considering that different safe-crackers have different methods for breaking into different safes, there are at least three types of damage your safe could suffer during a break-in and robbery. Here are those three types and how a locksmith would perform safe repair to fix them.

Crowbar Prying

This is obviously not the work of a legendary cat burglar. This is a beginner, trying to figure out what will work on your safe. Crowbar prying may work on some of the most basic of safes, but not everyone invests in a basic wall safe. The damage done here will be several upturned, curled edges around the crack of the door, and possibly even some splits in the metal. Your locksmith will expertly open your safe with your code (or you will!) and replace the door. If the damage is not too bad, the locksmith may be able to heat the metal on the door, press it back into position, and return the door almost to its full glory.

Bullet Holes

Yes, some safes can be opened with some expertly placed bullet holes. However, this type of thief would have to know what kind of safe you have, and whether or not bullet holes would actually work. Random bullet holes in the door will not work, and could even set off an alarm if your safe is wired. Still, if you have bullet holes, the safe repair needed is to remove any bullets, rewire the safe if needed, repair any inner mechanisms that have been damaged, and fill or patch the holes.

Plastic Explosives

This is a thief with advanced knowledge who knows how to use plastic explosives and blasting caps. If you were not so upset by the fact that your safe was busted and things were taken, you might be impressed with the thief's finesse. Holes are drilled into the door of the safe, filled with a plastic explosive, and then wired with blasting caps.

One quick charge and the door goes boom-pop! The door swings open, and the thief collects what he wants before fleeing the scene. The repairs to this safe are almost impossible to make, and your locksmith will probably recommend a brand new wall safe altogether.
