Things You Should Not Do When Your Baby Is Locked In A Car

It happens to everyone at least once. That panicky moment when you have taken stuff out of your car and accidentally locked your keys, and your baby, inside. In the middle of winter, that panicky feeling is even worse. You need emergency lockout services right away. If you managed not to lock your phone in the car as well, you can call for help. Just be sure that while you wait for the locksmith, you do not do any of the following.

Go into the House and Leave the Baby Unattended

Unless the only phone access you have is a landline in the house, do not leave your baby in the cooling car unattended. A neighbor would notice a baby in the car in the middle of winter and probably report you to the police. This is especially true if the baby is crying and drawing attention from those outside the vehicle. People have been known to break windows in cars to rescue dogs, and they would do it to rescue your baby too if they thought you left your baby in the car.

Go into a Bar

Shocking as it sounds, parents who have accidentally locked their infants in cars in the middle of winter have walked into bars to stay warm until help arrives. That is viewed as even more neglectful than going in your house to use the phone. Even though you are freezing outside, you have to stay with your baby and with your car. Hopefully, some caring passerby will offer a warm vehicle to sit in and stay close to your child until the locksmith shows up.

Smash the Window Nearest Your Baby

If you are really desperate to get to your baby and help is not expected to arrive within twenty minutes, you can smash a window to open the car. Whatever you do, DO NOT smash the window nearest the baby. You do not want the flying glass to cut his/her face or land in his/her eyes in an attempt to rescue him/her. Pick the front window that is on the diagonal from the baby's car seat. There is less chance that the glass will land on your baby.

Attempt to Jimmy the Door with Your Car Parked on the Street

You would be surprised how many police officers misinterpret a situation. If you can and are able to jimmy the car door open with a "slim jim," do not do it with your car parked on the street. A police officer may spot you and assume you are attempting to steal a car with a baby inside. You can attempt to jimmy the door if your vehicle is parked in the driveway. If a police officer does come by, flag the officer down for help and explain that you locked your baby inside. He or she is sure to stop and help.

About Me

Using A Great Safe

About a year ago, I could tell that there were some serious problems with my home security. I had been robbed twice, and I knew that I needed to make some changes in order to protect my belongings and my family. I worked hard to figure out what I could do to improve my security, but ultimately I decided that I needed a strong safe. I started looking around for a safe that would work for what I needed, and I was able to find an excellent business that would work for my belongings. It was incredible to have everything locked up and protected. This blog is all about using great safes.
